If my sock drawer is so full why is it difficult to find the right pair of socks? I often struggle finding a match to a particular sock or search endlessly for the pair that compliments my slacks. Despite the fact this overstuffed draw can barely close, I basically need new socks.
When I go through the drawer I inevitably find a lot of singles where the match is presumably somewhere in the draw… or not. After further inspection it was determined the latter was the case far more often. Seeing that some of these one offs were the ideal color or had their own personal story this was not as easy as you would think to remove.
There were also the threadbare and holey socks, that despite the fact the pairs were intact, still needed to be trashed. Purging has never been my strength and the prospect of throwing away a perfectly good sock seemed wasteful. After removing the old and solitary articles the drawer is now more manageable and easy to close.
Letting go of something that has become a part of your life is often difficult. Recognize when it no longer fits. If we hold on too long we occupy space that could be used to bring in something more in line with who we are becoming. These remnants distract you from what or who is more important. It makes it harder to present yourself fully clothed in the moment because you are carrying baggage which no longer fits.
Letting go starts with believing in yourself. This confidence enables you to know when to release what is no longer necessary. You can only hold onto so many things at once so do not let things that no longer fit keep you from holding onto what really matters. Periodically take a step back and identify what in your life is no longer in season. Purge things, thoughts, and people who are holding you back from committing yourself to the life God intended.
This release lets you to see life more clearly better understanding how you fit and how God supports where you are going. Allow yourself to grow realizing there are times when you need to be selective in what you accept into your world. Appreciate what comes into your life, even if it is there for only a season. So check your sock drawer and your life and I guarantee you will look and feel better.
